Bring in the Spring
Spring, my favourite season; the beginning of longer, brighter days, the promise of warmer temperatures, the unexpected swathes of vibrant spring blooms, and that fresh scent that hangs in the air. Spring is the time to open the windows, let in the light and maybe dust the top of the wardrobe? Aside from the obvious spring clean, there are numerous ways to bring spring into your home. Here are some of my top spring tips plus a selection of my current favourite spring home accessories.
Open the windows
A simple but effective one if you ask me. Fresh air permeating your home can instantly bring in that feeing of spring. Let your home breathe, let those stuffy rooms be stuffy no more. Watch the curtains dance in the breeze and, if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to hear the birds outside. Blissful.
Put the washing out
Sad is this may sound, there is no greater pleasure (slight exaggeration) than being able to hang washing to dry outside, particularly bedding; the freshness of those crisp air-dried sheets and pillowcases. Making the bed however, not so much!
Fresh spring flowers
Do like Miley and go and buy yourself some beautiful spring flowers - or indeed pick some from your garden. Tulips are my favourite with their vibrant colours and simple form. Pop them in a vase, a jar, jug, anything really. An instant injection of spring for your home.
Have a clear out
This one doesn’t quite provide the instant gratification that buying a bunch of flowers does, but once it’s done it feels good. Whether it’s that dreaded drawer of doom or shelves of shame, getting rid and feeling organised can feel so therapeutic. Take old clothes, books etc to charity shops and take that feeling of smugness up a level.
Shop your home
Refresh your home by shopping your home. Try moving that lamp that’s always been in the spare room to the living room, change up your artwork - maybe frame some wallpaper, fabric samples or your child’s artwork. Using what you already have in a different way can often feel as good as buying new. Be creative.
